PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical education (PE) is a required academic subject that teaches participation in lifelong, health-enhancing physical activity. In PE, students learn to work with others, develop healthy personal fitness habits, and set fitness goals now and throughout their lives. PE is not recess, or a before- or after-school sports club.

PE is:

A regular class scheduled during the school day.

Taught by a certified, licensed NYCPS teacher.Instruction on a wide range of skills, not just sports.

Based on a written curriculum, with established learning standards

At the heart of Rising New York Road Runners is PLAYBuilder, a FREE online portal with 1,100+ activities, lesson plans, and instructional videos which promote physical literacy – the ability, confidence, and desire to be physically active for life. PLAYBuilder helps enhance kids' physical activity, whether you're teaching PE in a gym or outdoors, taking a brain break in a classroom, serving kids in an afterschool center, or sharing resources for families to stay active at home.
